About the Band

- Like a blast of cold air in the face, the Lizband return with their second CD, i've been here before. Recorded at the Nickel Soundworks in St. John's by Don Ellis (Hardship Post, Potatobug, Bung), the new album features 12 songs that range from sweet and soft pop to loud, fast, and abrasive punk, expanding on the sound first heard on the "six songs" e.p.

- The lizband have been a mainstay on the East Coast for the past four years, with highly flammable live performances, an appearance on the ECMA Awards show telecast, numerous spots on MuchMusic, and more than one incidence of controversy. The new album features more of the honest music and unapologetically frank lyrics the band has made their reputation on.

- Both BELLY PAINTING and EMILY have become East Coast radio mainstays, and the album charted in the national campus radio top 50; the band also appeared at the SummerSault '98 show in St. John's alongside Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, Treble Charger and more!

- The lizband contributed a kick-ass cover of Mike Wade's CURVE OF HEAVEN to the Cover Story compilation, and Liz herself recently contributed a track to the highly successful Ron and Connie Hynes tribute "11 : 11". "i've been here before" is the lizband's first new release in three years, and their first full-length release ever. They also played a set at the Alice Online webcast, and you can still check it out by clicking right here!

- The lizband recently claimed their second East Coast Music Award nomination for Alternative Artist of the year (their first was in 1995 for "six songs") and appeared on the cover of Reverb magazine's February issue.

- Look for the lizband's new official website soon on a computer near you!

Here's what "they" say about the LIZBAND....

"Their music defies classification; maybe a hybrid of blues, country, early punk - you might hear heavy metal crashing through somewhere. With Pickard's throaty wail bouncing off the walls, you wouldn't be shocked to hear Patsy Cline coming from the speakers" - the express, 1994

"The Lizband have been at the forefront of the St. John's scene since day one" - granite, 1995

"On I've Been Here Before, Liz lets her full vocal range come into play, from soft floating melodies down to the gutter with hard edges and spikes" - the evening telegram, dec. 97

"..the Lizband has grown to become a pillar of east coast independence and one of the longest lasting 'non-traditional' bands from St. John's" - reverb, feb. 99

"This is an honest and understated rock album which doesn't betray any of the grit of the band's live performance... definitely worth the cover charge." - what's going on, apr. 99
