About the Band

- Since 1995, Gearbox have been making a name for themselves as one of the best bands on the East Coast. Their live shows are fast, energetic precison rock extravaganzas; their sound draws comparisons to Bush and the Smashing Pumpkins; their songs are drenched in rock solid riffs and hooks you couldn't forget if you tried.

- GEARBOX is also the name of their debut CD. Recorded at Jolly Roger Studios in St. John's, songs like FOR NOW, SPIDERMILK, and SHOULD'VE STAYED showcase a band with talent and creativity to burn, and a perfect sense of how to make a song bore directly into your brain and live there forever.

- Gearbox is what happens when you take five friends who have known each other since they were 5 and give them guitars.

- The track FOR NOW has already seen heavy rotation at OZ-FM in St. John's, and the CD was top ten at CHMR-FM. With appearances at Muchmusic's "SnowJob 97", numerous spots on "MuchEast", and opening shows for the likes of Green Day, Our Lady Peace, and Moist, Gearbox have been steadily and quickly raising their profile in Newfoundland and beyond.

- Gearbox contributed a stellar cover of Potbelly's classic TRAMPOLINE to the COVER STORY compilation.... they also played a set at the Alice Online webcast, and you can still check it out by clicking right here!

- Gearbox have just released their second album, SONGS FOR THE MASSES?, recorded at Nickel Soundworks in St. John's. Featuring even more fresh-baked rock classics, a huge expansion of sound and songwriting, and some special surprise guests, it promises to be the essential indie rawk album of 1999!

Here's what "they" say about GEARBOX....

"This is alternative music - whatever that means - at its best: raw passionate, and most of all real. The bass and drums are heavy, the guitar licks are thundering, and the vocals move easily from a whisper to a scream..... the songs on this release are amazingly infectious, resounding long after the CD player has shut down. ***** (five out of five)" - the express, dec. 97
